Under the mottoes of “Let’s fill our cities with raw voices of poets!” and “Let the beauty of the Japanese language echo around the world in the strong voices of our poets and writers!”—in order to reinvigorate the true, raw voices of our writers, which seemed to have weakened, I instituted the project known as La Voix des Poètes (The Voice of the Poets) on October 14, 2006. Now, some 7 years later, we are celebrating our 1,000th performance. Since its inceptions, performances under the aegis of this project have taken place every few days under the production of poet and reciter Tendo Taijin.

During this project, over 150 people have participated, coming from as far as Hokkaido, Okinawa, Korea, and even the United States, to recite their works. This time, each poet will have 10 minutes to recite in a loud voice some of their own works, that is, with the naked voice, without the use of a microphone. This is the first time in Japan—perhaps in the world—that poets have ever read their works without amplification, and 25 poets will participate.

Using this opportunity to listen to several poets recite their own works with their true, naked voices, try to decide with your own ears whose voice you felt the most comfortable, or whose voice you thought the most powerful, and let their voices shower you with their vibrations, and enjoy the experience!
